One of the Secrets to Creating an Empowered Life is to Know What You Want
One of the secrets to creating a magical life—one where you are healthy, empowered, living joyously and abundantly, and raising your conscious awareness—is to know ‘what you want’ and how to communicate that desire with the unseen forces of the universe in order to manifest it in your life. Otherwise, it’s just a wish.
One of the other great secrets is being able to change any sabotaging beliefs you hold at the subconscious level. You must do this; otherwise, they will continue to torment you.
What Do You Want?
Do you know that your first and foremost mission (as an infinite spiritual being having this temporary human experience) is to live from a place that brings meaning and purpose to your life? Think of all the wonderful ways you want to enjoy your life and the exciting adventures you want to experience. Your life needs to not only fulfill the needs of your body, but also the wants and needs of your mind and spirit in order to fully engage and live life to its fullest potential. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? To know what you want and what you want to be, have, do, and experience in your life.
But, what if like many individuals, you are having trouble knowing what it is you want? What if you feel stuck and uncertain about what you want to create in your life? Many times, in my travels, I have come across individuals who have lost touch with their hopes, dreams, and desires. I look into their eyes and see emptiness or sadness. They would fall silent when I asked them what they wanted to create, and many said they didn’t really know anymore. They wanted a more fulfilling life but couldn’t tell me what that was for it is rarely explored at a deeper level.
My heart aches when I hear of someone who has lost touch with his or her soul. I feel a deep sadness in my heart when I realize their spirit isn’t shining, and that they have lost contact with their inner life-force and passion for living to the fullest. If I were to ask you that same question, “What do you want?” could you give a definitive answer in this moment? If you don’t already know, you may want to take some time to gain some clarity and perspective.
The Value of Putting Pen to Paper
Becoming clear on what you do and don’t want from life is one of the most important steps you can take in terms of finding your true self. I recommend getting a blank journal or spiral notebook and using it to create a “Goals and Desires Journal” or a “Heart and Soul Journal.” This is much like a “Bucket List,” though the focus is on writing down your dreams and passions as well as what you’d like to be, do, or have in this experience of life. What would be the very best expression of you?
Do you find yourself asking, “How do I find out what I want?” Relax. That’s easy. Begin by making a list and taking inventory of all the things in your life that you don’t want or identify as problems. List any circumstances, situations, conditions, or unhappiness that you could do without. If you don’t like what you see in your life, you need to know that you can create a different reality with a new choice.
Then, make a list that would be the positive-opposite for every item you wrote down on your “Don’t Want” list. This way you will know what belongs in your life and what doesn’t.

Don’t Want List
to be stressed out and frustrated all the time.
to live in a noisy apartment, stressful neighborhood, or cramped house.
to live alone.
to feel helpless, powerless, worthless, or sad.
to struggle to make money.
to be calm, confident, filled with peace.
to live in a nurturing home in a nice neighborhood.
to be in a loving, nurturing, supportive relationship, community, or environment.
to feel empowered, optimistic, worthy, self-assured, happy.
to make money easily and naturally with meaningful work.
The things you desire to manifest in your life start out as spiritual impulses of love that want you to grow and connect with an expression of your creative self. Keep your journal close and add to your list every time you think of something new. This keeps your mission dynamic and alive. If you don’t already know what you want, here are some questions to contemplate to help you get started:
• What do you want to create for your life?
• If you could do anything, what would you do?
• If you could be anything, what would you like to be?
• If you could have anything, what would you like to have?
• What would make your life worth living?
• What would bring meaning and passion to your life?
• What do you long for?
• Where do you want to live?
• What would you most like to learn?
• What would you like to develop within yourself?
• If you want to travel, where do you want to go, and what do you want to see?
• When someone asks, “What do you do for a living?” what would you like to be able to say?
• How would you like to make a positive difference in the world?
Like I said, the first part of the magic formula for living the life of your dreams is to know what you want - this acts like a compass in your life. The second part is being able to change sabotaging beliefs held at the subconscious level into life-enhancing beliefs - this is a source of your empowerment. You can learn how to easily and effectively do this in the Heart and Soul Academy’s online course Unlocking Your Potential.
Until next time. I look forward to connecting with you again soon.
